How long can I have an item/how many items can I have in the system? (top)
There is no time or quantity limit on items in your inventory.
 
How much does this all cost? (top)
This service is being provided completely free of charge.
 
How is property matched up? (top)
Property will be matched based on serial number matches. For this reason, entering a serial number is highly recommended.
 
How will I know if my property is found? (top)
Once a property match is confirmed, you will be notified via the e-mail account registered to your account.
 
What happens if my property is found? (top)
Once a property match is confirmed, your property will be returned to the police department from which it was seized. It then becomes their responsibility to return the item to the rightful owner.
Note: Property Room is not responsible for decisions made by police departments.
 
Why is a police report recommended? (top)
Without a police report, rightful ownership of the property cannot be confirmed. Because of this property cannot be returned without a valid police report.
 
How often is property recovered? (top)
There have been many property recovery success stories to date! Check out our Success Stories page to read about them.
 
What if I don't know the serial number or don't have a police report? (top)
Although this information is not required, it is strongly recommended when adding an item to our system. The chances of property recovery are drastically reduced without this information due to the matching process and property recovery policy. Please read our Terms of Service for more information.
 
Can I add information for property that hasn't been stolen? (top)
At present, the property recovery system only supports items that have already been stolen. This feature however will be implemented in the near future, so check back for updates!
